You simply count the number of colored, LED-illuminated squares in each of the four fields on the brushed chrome faceplate! The fields correspond to the four numbers on a digital clock. So in the picture above, the time is 12:39. Get it?

And whoever coined the phrase "time stood still" wasn't referring to the TIX! While it does have a "static" mode, you can also set it to change which squares are illuminated in each field every second or minute, creating an ever-changing pattern that always indicates the correct time.
